Policy-oriented research forms the core of activities at the Johns
Hopkins Institute for Policy Studies (IPS). IPS researchers design
studies to identify the scope and contours of public problems, determine
the causes of these problems, and fashion effective solutions. Research
projects during the current academic year cover such issues
as job retention among welfare recipients, housing assistance and
long-term dependency, economic development strategies for Baltimore,
and the contribution of nonprofits to the local economy.
