IPS was critical in helping me gain the tools to more effectively evaluate the potential impacts of policy and to make recommendations based on rigorous analysis.

The Johns Hopkins Master of Arts in Public Policy (MPP) program is looking for people interested in working to resolve public problems, whether in government agencies or private-sector foundations, nonprofit organizations or businesses.

In addition to recent college graduates, we welcome mid-career professionals, returning Peace Corps volunteers, and practitioners in public and private agencies. Our experience indicates that, in many cases, those who have started on a career path utilize the MPP program most effectively. We encourage international students, people of color, and women to apply to our program.

Applicants must have the equivalent of an American B.A. degree and typically must score 600 or higher on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). In addition to college and GRE scores, the Admissions Committee considers relevant work and community experience, career goals, a personal statement, and letters of recommendation, especially those from former professors. Students should consult the Graduate Admissions section of the Johns Hopkins School of Arts & Sciences catalog for additional information. International students whose native language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), and have the results submitted directly to the University. Hopkins requires a minimum score of 560 on the test, and a score of 600 or better is preferred.

Although the admissions process does not require an interview, we recommend that applicants visit Hopkins and meet Public Policy faculty and students.

Applications are due January 15 each year. The Admissions Committee notifies applicants of its decisions on or about April 1. Students who accept an offer of admission then receive registration, housing, and health care information.
