  16. Funding Opportunity for Ph.D. Candidates from World Bank-eligible Countries The Robert S. McNamara Fellowships Program provides support to researchers from World Bank-eligible countries who are under the age of 45 and who are working on a doctoral thesis in areas of socioeconomic development, specifically focusing on issues critical to improving the lives of the most vulnerable in society.  Fellowships have been awarded to researchers addressing issues such as development economics, health and population, education, environment, agricultural and infrastructure development, conflict resolution, the role of NGOs in development, trade and tax reforms, poverty reduction, and institutional and regulatory reform.  The McNamara Fellowships Program would be a useful source of funding for International Fellows in Urban Studies applicants who have been accepted by IPS and are looking for financial support.  If you know young researchers who are at this stage in their careers, are focused in one of the areas described above, and would be interested in participating in the Johns Hopkins International Urban Fellows program, please encourage them to write to Marsha Schachtel at mschacht@jhu.edu.  Applicants to the McNamara Fellowship program must be invited by a host institution in the country in which they will be studying; we can expedite consideration of International Urban Fellow applications in order to permit successful applicants to include our invitation in their applications for the McNamara Fellowship due March 31, 2008.  More information (including a list of eligible countries) is available at www.worldbank.org/scholarships.
